The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is the national broadcaster of the United Kingdom, based at Broadcasting House in London, England.

The BBC is currently established by law under the British Broadcasting Act 2022, with recent plans to be re-established officially under a royal charter. Following the closure of the Department for Culture, Media & Sport in mid 2022 by the Government, the BBC has had government oversight under His Majesty's Treasury. As a public service, the BBC's work is primarily funded by a government grant, as listed in the Government's monthly Budget.

Governance & Corporate Structure

The BBC is a statutory corporation, , independent from direct government intervention, with its activities being overseen by the BBC Board.

Overseeing Document & Charter

The BBC operates under the British Broadcasting Corporation Act 2022, which was originally proposed by Prime Minister DeanRHeathcote. The Act lists the governing structure of the BBC, from the appointment of the Director–General, to the operations of the BBC Board, and the operational structure, e.g. its divisions.

In June 2023, Deputy Prime Minister AdaptedFrost proposed a repeal bill to Parliament to repeal the British Broadcasting Corporation Act 2022, to be replaced by a royal charter which would set out the arrangements for the governance of the British Broadcasting Corporation in a more detailed manner. The Repeal Bill successfully passed the Commons, however failed to pass the Lords, with members wanting details on the transition period between the law being repealed and the royal charter taking effect.

BBC Board

The BBC Board sets the strategy for the corporation and assesses the performance of the BBC's executive committee in delivering the BBC's services.

Due to the absence of an independent Chairman, the BBC Board is currently chaired by the Director–General, and consists of the following members:
