TimothyCathcart, Baron Cathcart of Strathnaver, OBE PC, is a British statesman currently serving as the Permanent Under-Secretary to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
Military Career
Timothy is currently serving as Commanding Officer of the Carrier Strike Group in the Royal Navy, at the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
British Army
In addition to his naval career, Timothy served for two consecutive years in the British Army.
Household Cavalry
His career begun in the Household Cavalry where he joined as a Trooper in the Life Guards. At the time of his enlistment, the Household Cavalry was the largest regiment of the British Army by manpower.
Coldstream Guards
After the decommissioning of the Household Cavalry, Timothy joined the Coldstream Guards at the rank of Lance Sergeant. After just a couple of weeks, Timothy was promoted to Company Sergeant Major and served at that rank until his transfer to the Royal Tank Regiment in June of 2020.
Royal Tank Regiment
After transferring from the Household Cavalry, Timothy joined the Royal Tank Regiment at the rank of Corporal in the reserves while committed to duties in the Service Prosecuting Authority.
Royal Lancers
After the Royal Tank Regiment had been rebranded to the Royal Lancers, Timothy recieved a Honourable Discharge, retiring at the rank of Sergeant. One month later he joined the Royal Navy.
