Sir Zoriby, Marquess of Salisbury, GCB CMG MBE KPM PC is a prominent British serviceman and former politician. He currently holds the position of Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service, the most senior role in His Majesty's Civil Service.

Career within the United Kingdom

Civil Service Career

Zoriby began his civil service career in May 2019, starting at HM Treasury in the Companies House as a Registrar. His dedication and competence quickly earned him recognition, and he was soon appointed Chief Registrar of Companies later that month. Continuing his ascent in the civil service, Zoriby was appointed Permanent Secretary of His Majesty's Treasury in February 2020.

In March 2022, Zoriby reached the pinnacle of his civil service career when he was appointed Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service, a position he still holds today. In this role, he provides crucial advice to the government and ensures the smooth functioning of the civil service.

Metropolitan Police Service

Zoriby's professional journey extends into the field of policing. In December 2018, he began his career in the Greater Manchester Police, later becoming the Metropolitan Police. Through his dedication and competence, Zoriby steadily rose through the ranks, eventually reaching the rank of Superintendent.

As Superintendent, he led the Roads and Transport Policing Command division, demonstrating his leadership skills and commitment to public safety. However, in December 2021, Zoriby resigned from his active role in the service, opting to become an honorary Commander while pursuing other professional interests.

Business Ventures

Zoriby possesses a diverse and successful business background, having served on the boards of numerous leading UK companies. His contributions to organisations such as Stagecoach, RAC (Royal Automobile Club), Biffa, Go-Ahead London, and others have played a significant role in shaping their strategies and driving their growth. Currently, Zoriby owns a majority of shares in the British and Commonwealth Holdings company, a conglomerate with holdings in Roadside Cargo Solutions, Biffa Waste Solutions, Royal Automobile Club, and Less Cookies. Since April 2021, Zoriby has served as the Chairman of Roadside Cargo Solutions.

Political Career

Zoriby has also made significant contributions to the political landscape. In 2019, he served as the Leader of the Conservative Party and held esteemed positions such as Deputy Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer. Following his political career, Zoriby was appointed a life peer in the House of Lords in October 2019, where he currently holds the status of a hereditary non-sitting peer. He has also served in every Lords' Government.

Military Service

Zoriby joined the Royal Navy in December 2021 and served until October 2022. Afterwards, he transitioned to the Royal Military Police as a full-time Sergeant. Zoriby achieved the rank of Warrant Officer in the Royal Navy.

Commonwealth Contributions

Zoriby actively participates in Commonwealth affairs, presently serving as a Commonwealth Administrator. His broad experience and understanding of international relations contribute to the promotion of cooperation and development among member countries. Zoriby was also appointed Governor of Gibraltar in November 2021, a role in which he played a vital part in overseeing the governance and administration of the British Overseas Territory. He resigned from this position in January 2023. Furthermore, Zoriby has held significant roles in the Cayman Islands, including as the Commissioner of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

Current Roles

Today, Zoriby continues to serve as Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service. He is a member of Group Staff, a Parliament Administrator and a former Chair of the House of Lords Appointments Commission.
