He explored several different career opportunities within the Greater Manchester Police and was successful in joining the Tactical Firearms Unit shortly after becoming a qualified police constable. His career roles in the Greater Manchester Police mainly consisted of specialist firearms roles like the Counter-Terrorism Specialist Firearms Unit and the Principal Protection Unit. After excelling in the specialist firearms unit, he resigned from the Greater Manchester Police on December 13th 2019 to pursue his political career.

Fenston is also prominent serviceman in the British Forces, serving in Afghanistan, South Africa, and Northern Ireland, alongside holding numerous other positions.
